year-round arts programme for people
with lived experience of homelessness.
The annual One Roof Festival is back - this time, with a new RATty approach!
Old Diorama Arts Centre's first One Roof Festival (then called One Fest) was 10 years ago, in 2016, pioneered by Camden local artist David Tovey, and it has gone from strength to strength since then.
This year will still have everything that those who have been coming for years already know and love: the open studio, the food, the space and time to connect with each other, the wide range of creative workshops delivered by artists with lived experience of homelessness, the exhibition in ODAC’s foyer at the end of it all.
This year - because they've gone and put us in charge(!) - there are more theatre- and storytelling-related sessions than ever before, and more opportunities for multi-artform collaborations. Because of requests from the community, we've also mixed the arts workshops with mental health and wellbeing-related sessions.
We loved supporting and then leading the delivery of One Roof's first year operating as a weekly year-round programme. That first year was titled Laying Foundations, and was all about skills building, exploration and trying things out. This year, titled Bricks and Mortar, is about putting our skill sets, perspectives and ideas together.
For the first time ever, there will be a Project Space operating over both weeks of the festival. Each week, those in it will R&D a project that will become the two projects we develop over the course of the year.
No need to sign up - anyone with lived experience of any kind of homelessness can just come and you will be welcome. If you want to let us know about any access needs in advance, though, feel free to fill in this form.
